When you have heavy objects to hang, be it large paintings, framed mirrors, or large wall objects , your hooks have a heavy load to carry. The right hook for the job can be determined by the type of object, and its weight, that you want to display. AS Hanging Systems offers several hooks (some refer to them as wall hangers while others refer to them as grippers) capable of providing the needed support. Let’s review our Self-Gripping Hook and Heavy-Classic Hook for these demanding applications.
Our Self-Gripping Hook, with an internal mechanism that operates automatically when a steel cable is inserted, is our most convenient and best selling hook. Not requiring the weight of the object to “activate” the gripper, the hook will snuggly slide up the cable with little friction and will stay in place until you decide to release it. To do so, simply compress the button at the top towards the hook body. The Self-Gripping Hook can now be moved up and down the cable with ease. Changing the placement of the hook can be done with one hand, easily sliding the hook when it is behind a large or heavy object. This is a very beneficial design, which you will quickly appreciate in use. Without this feature most any minor adjustment could easily require two people – one to support the object while a second manipulates the wall hanger. Imagine doing that while standing on a ladder or elevated platform.
With a 33-lb. load capacity, the Self-Gripping Hook will provide enough support for most objects. Should your object be heavier than 33 lbs., you may easily add a second cable and hook. Instead of setting one centrally located behind a frame, you would place one each behind both of the left and right sides of the frame. With each Self-Gripping Hook capable of supporting 33 lbs. (when used with a steel cable) you would be free to support up to 66 lbs. When using the Wall Track in conjunction with this hook and cable combination, multiple cables and hooks may be implemented, since a 6-foot track weight capacity extends all the way to 300 lbs.
In most applications, the Self-Gripping Hook and steel cable will provide more than adequate load capacity. However, when an application falls outside these parameters, you may transition to Rods (in lieu of Cables) and our Heavy-Classic Hook (instead of the above Self-Gripping Hook). Either combination is compatible with our Wall Track.
The Heavy-Classic Hook, unlike the Self-Gripping Hook, is designed to gently grip the aluminum rod while being moved into place. Once you have the correct placement, the hook then becomes “locked” into position by the weight of the object hanging from it. Combined with our aluminum rods, the Heavy-Classic Hook will carry a load up to 70 pounds. As we mentioned above, if you need to increase the weight capacity even more, you can use a pair of two rods and Heavy-Classic Hooks in combination for a whopping 140 lb. capacity.
When displaying your heavy wall hangings, implement one of our two strongest wall hooks to support your weight requirements.
