In the past, we’ve shared stories from one of our more advanced users showing his creativity in creating a magazine rack and mounting Click Rail Track behind crown molding. We love these application stories and hope they’ve inspired creativity for your projects.
Well, he’s recently shared yet more evidence of his ingenuity and flair for style – and we just had to share it with you.
Look at this beautiful shelf made of decorative molding, the same molding used in the crown molding project. At first glance, this is a lovely wall shelf in its own right. At second glance, we realized it was craftily and uniquely designed out of pieces of crown molding. Clever. Yet, upon further investigation, we discovered that this classic wall shelf was mounted to a 2-foot-length of our Casso® Display Rail. WOW! Very Clever! Design and functionality.
He shared several photos with us so we could see how this was executed. In the following photo you can see a length of Casso rail just as it was shipped. Above it you see the Casso track that has been encased in finish carpentry to give it a classical look that matches the room décor for which it was intended.
The only visible portion of the original track is the lip at the lower edge. The track was first painted white. Then it was housed in molding and reinforced with various other pieces to give the assembly additional strength. Lastly, a top was fabricated from a scrap piece of vinyl wainscoting that was left over from an earlier project. In fact, he tells us, except for the Casso rail, all of these pieces were left over scrap. The cost of this project was minimal. The assembly was all accomplished using drops of Super Glue.
Here is the whole assembly length.
While this shelf is abundant in beautiful design, it is limited in its functionality for displaying or supporting items of much weight, perhaps five pounds. But that is likely adequate because the top surface is not deep, extending only 2 ¼ inches from the wall. It is about 2 feet 4 inches long.
Its true functionality comes from the Casso Display Rail, within. The lower “lip” of the rail is a long open groove lined with a ribbed gripper that allows for items such as documents, photographs, post cards, business cards, your child’s latest artistic masterpiece, and things of up to matte board thickness to be easily inserted and removed with a simple push-pull action.
No damage is done to the items … no thumbtack holes are being placed in the wall, and no unsightly cork board panels are impinging on the classic design of this workspace. A uniquely designed at-a-glance or at-your-fingertips application. Which is really what Casso Display Rail is all about.
It is a bulletin bar because of the inclusion of Casso rail and with the mounted shelf it is also a display shelf. Because Casso Display Rail requires no fasteners (push pin, thumb tacks, staples) it is always ready-to-use. There is never a need to locate a thumb tack, for example. Just insert a document from below.
Should you find this style of decorating not to your taste, that’s not a problem. Casso track has a sense of style designed right in. A sleek, thin, and contemporary design fits into most any office décor. Or feel free to use it as a platform, as our customer has exampled, and create your own stylish rail.
We’re continuously being surprised and energized by seeing what our creative readers … YOU … design and create. We love hearing your stories and thank you for sharing them with us so we can share them with others. Let’s keep those creative juices flowing!
